Second-year student Allison Gent has been working as a Project Coordinator in the Assessment Division of American Institutes for Research (AIR) since August.
Established in 1946, with headquarters in Washington, D.C., the American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization that conducts behavioral and social science research and delivers technical assistance both domestically and internationally in the areas of education, health, and the workforce.
“As a Project Coordinator, I help to ensure effective and timely deployment of test materials by tracking content development, communicating with clients regarding updates and requests, and creating and maintaining various schedules and timelines,” Gent said.
The Assessment Division of AIR works with states and other organizations to create and deliver online assessments. AIR Assessment uses technology to measure student progress and provide educators and families with timely, relevant information about teaching and learning. Last school year, AIR Assessment delivered nearly 60 million online tests in more than 20 states.
AIR Assessment is in the process of being acquired by Cambium Learning Group, a leading provider in education software.
“My time at the Clinton School, particularly the program planning course, certainly helped to prepare me for this role in program management,” Gent said. “Working as Project Coordinator for AIR Assessment has allowed me to continue my education-focused work while simultaneously utilizing and increasing my program management expertise.”
For her International Public Service Project, Gent worked with Junior Achievement Tanzania, one of the world’s largest youth-serving NGOs that prepares the young people of Tanzania for employment and entrepreneurship. As part of her Practicum project, she and a team of other first-year students worked with Single Parent Scholarship Fund, an organization that assists single parents enrolled in local colleges and technical schools with financial assistance and personal support.
A graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in sociology, Gent spent two years with City Year Little Rock as both a corps member and a team leader working alongside students and communities in southwest Little Rock.
