Dean Soto Signs National Day of Racial Healing Proclamation

University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service Dean Victoria M. DeFrancesco Soto, Ph.D., has signed a proclamation declaring the school’s commitment to observing January 18, 2022 as the National Day of Racial Healing.

On that date, the Center on Community Philanthropy will virtually host its fifth annual Advancing Equity Award Ceremony, which recognizes organizations using innovative solutions to address racial inequalities in their communities.

The National Day of Racial Healing (NDORH) is an opportunity for people, organizations and communities across the United States to call for racial healing, bring people together in their common humanity and take collective action to create a more just and equitable world. NDORH is a part of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) effort – a national and community-based process to plan for and bring about transformational and sustainable change and to address the historic and contemporary effects of racism.

The proclamation reads:

TO ALL WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME – GREETINGS

WHEREAS: The National Day of Racial Healing is an opportunity for people, organizations and communities to call for racial healing, bring people together in common humanity and take collective action to create a more just and equitable world.

WHEREAS: The W.K. Kellogg Foundation established this national and community-based process to promote transformative and sustainable change.

WHEREAS: Commemorating the National Day of Racial Healing, The University of Arkansas Clinton School’s Center on Community Philanthropy in 2018 established the Advancing Equity Award for presentation to organizations using innovative solutions to address racial inequalities in their communities.

WHEREAS: Since 2018, ten organizations have received Advancing Equity Awards and additional awards will be presented on January 18, 2022.
