Skip Rutherford Student Leadership Endowment Established

Today marks the ending of Skip Rutherford’s tenure as Dean of the University Arkansas of Clinton School of Public Service and his retirement from a decades-long career in the public and private sectors.

Before embarking on his remarkable journey in business, politics and public service, Rutherford likes to say he arrived as a freshman at the University of Arkansas without the “three Cs” – no cash, no car and no connections. Yet, because of his energetic personality, hard work and through the help of mentors, he became a student leader among his peers, establishing friendships and connections that are still part of his personal and professional life today.

Rutherford has carried this forward as a mentor to so many young people over the years through his roles as a public relations executive, teacher and dean. In the spirit of that young man from Batesville who lacked the “three Cs” and to honor Rutherford in conjunction with his retirement celebration, the James L. “Skip” Rutherford III Student Leadership Endowment Fund has been created. Endowed at the University of Arkansas Foundation, the fund will grant awards to rising student leaders at the Clinton School and other campuses within the UA System.

Please consider giving a gift to the fund to honor his career and provide support for rising student leaders in the University of Arkansas System.

Contributions to the fund are tax-deductible and can be made online by selecting “Skip Rutherford Student Leadership Endowment” in the drop-down menu or mailed to the Clinton School at 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, AR 72201.
