Read Admire (‘15), CEO and Founder of The Urban Food Loop Project, was recently recognized by the 2020 Sustain the Rock Awards. Admire and The Urban Food Loop Project won the award for Most Sustainable Small Business.
The Sustain the Rock Awards recognize businesses, nonprofits, individuals, and departments or employees of the City of Little Rock who have made significant contributions to a more sustainable city. They embrace and promote an approach to business and daily living that balances environmental responsibility, economic prosperity, and community equity.
The areas where Sustain the Rock Award winners have demonstrated achievement and commitment to sustainability in Little Rock include leadership and commitment to sustainable practices in the Little Rock community; development and use of sustainable practices that are defined, measurable, and repeatable; efforts that result in toxics reduction, waste reduction, saving habitat, pollution reduction, wildlife protection , environmental equity, changes in social equity; and mobilization of a larger group of people, including education, outreach, and partnerships.
The Urban Food Loop Project is a weekly composting service focused on reducing residential and commercial food waste. For a monthly fee, customers can fill a home compost bin with food scraps and have it picked up and added to The Urban Food Loop Project’s composting operation. The customers earn fresh compost in return, which can be requested for drop off at their homes or donated to community partners like Little Rock Urban Farming or the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance Gleaning Garden.
Since its inception in 2015, Admire and his business have diverted over 2 million pounds of organic material from local landfills.
