Crosby Working with Summer Search Bay Area

Laura Crosby (‘13) is working as the Associate Director of Events for Summer Search Bay Area, a year-round program that uses a combination of social-emotional mentoring, summer leadership experiences, and post-secondary advising to empower young people who face systemic oppression.

In her role, Crosby leads the development and execution of a comprehensive event strategy to support the immediate and long-term needs of the organization.

Crosby’s previous experience includes six years with City Year. She was a part of the start-up team that launched City Year in Tulsa, Okla., and joined the Jacksonville, Fla., team to build community support for the organization through strategic communications and events.

“One of the things that drew me to Summer Search is the focus on transformational summer experiences for the students we work with,” Crosby said. “Each of the high school students Summer Search works with participates in two transformative summer experiences. It reminds me of the service-learning experiences that are central to the Clinton School curriculum.”

Crosby worked with Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY USA) on her Capstone project, conducting a feasibility study to the effectiveness of the home-visitation model. For her International Public Service Project, Crosby traveled to Jakarta, Indonesia, to work with Search for Common Ground, the country’s women’s leadership program. During her first year at the Clinton School, she and a team of students assessed the needs of the growing sustainable and green business community in central Arkansas.

“Through my Practicum, IPSP, and Capstone experiences I was able to put what I was learning into practice but also learned so much about myself and the soft skills that are critical to the work,” Crosby said. “Being able to resource more students having similar transformational experiences is something that I am truly passionate about.”
